Did the DAILY NEWS swipe from the DAILY MAIL? Let's not cal it PLAGIARISM...

Oh, it looks like there's a whiff of the NEWSWER mentality over at the Daily News.

Why bother to do real reporting and research when you can take from somebody else?

Oh, but if you CREDIT your original source (and BURY that CREDIT further down in your text) you're OK. No Plagiarism.

Here's the DAILY NEWS reporting on Kevin Spacey.

From the opening lines, you get the idea that the crusading DAILY NEWS went to Nantucket and pulled papers in some Freedom of Information crusade:

"... a Nantucket District Court filing obtained by the Daily News..."

But...

SIX PARAGRAPHS LATER, the Daily News admits "The documents, as first reported by the Daily Mail..."

So the DAILY NEWS actually "obtained" the information FROM the DAILY MAIL or AFTER the Daily Mail did the leg work.

Isn't it a BIT stinky for the DAILY NEWS to crow about documents "OBTAINED" not by their own skills, but by glomming what the competition did?

It's not just a BIT stinky, because these two twisted sisters do it all the time. It's like they go into each others' hampers to try stuff on. "I'm not wearing yesterday's panties...I'm wearing someone ELSE's day-old knickers." And vice versa. Whew...what a whiff.

Do YOU want to use the coupon and PAY the DAILY NEWS for what they got FREE from the DAILY MAIL?

THAT'S SAHL, FOLKS???? Myopic Mort Sahl "Portrait" on EBAY - & Abe Lincoln's HAIR! OOOOOH

EBAY.

They'll be the first to tell you: "We're JUST a venue...we have NO IDEA if something is authentic."

AND...they are under NO legal obligation to ask a seller to PROVE anything. Ha ha. Caveat Emptor.

They rely, in the case of celebrity swindles, on the celebrity to see the fraud and report it, or the celebrity's VeRO (Verified Rights Owner) rep to notice it and, out of morality, send in a DMCA.

Since most stars don't even have a VeRO rep on eBay, and many who do have to PAY for every stoppage, it's no surprise that fraud happens on eBay. That includes faked autographs, and most especially "memorabilia" on dead people from history.

Lookie Lookie. Here's a supposed art expert with a thousand auctions, and he's saying he's got a rare, valuable portrait of MORT SAHL!

You remember Mort Sahl? Bulb-headed guy with glasses and a receding hairline?

A guy with weird floppy ears and a squat, bulbous nose?

Let's see that again...

Now let's see a picture of Mort Sahl, taken around the time this portrait was supposedly painted:

The seller was sent a PM and told it's NOT MORT SAHL, and did the seller remove the item, or reply? Nooooooo.

Why did the seller think this is a potrait of Mort Sahl?

Oh. On the back, or on a piece of paper somewhere, there's the notation, "Portrait of Mort."

So who ELSE could it be? There's only ONE guy named MORT in America. RIGHT?

The painter is from New Orleans. The only connection Mort has to New Orleans is when he worked for Jim Garrison down there. The photo above was take around that time. Gosh, Mort is NOT wearing glasses, does NOT have a receding hairline, does NOT have a weird domed bulbous head, and his famous nose is not squat. Well, uh, artistic license??

Let's take a look at some of the other GEMS this seller is offering.

AMAZING. He's somehow acquired bits of hair from the two most famous Presidents: Washington and Lincoln. AND the most famous actress, Marilyn Monroe. HOW did he do ALL THAT?

These items come with a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) and EBAY does warn bidders (somewhere, buried on a website page) that a COA is not worth the paper it's printed on, unless the authentication comes NOT from the seller, but from a very, VERY respected third party.

If you've got the imagination and the nerve, YOU can go on eBay and offer forgeries of dead people, go to a thrift shop and pretend some item was once worn by a celebrity, download fake nudes and claim they are real, or play any number of other games. It may take quite a while before legitimate autograph dealers start saying "BEWARE" and dare to name the crook. It may take a while before an irate bidder thinks to actually authenticate an item, declare fraud, and contact the Better Business Bureau or Paypal or eBay and demand a refund.

Ebay tends to yawn, suspend the seller, and if the seller comes back, rinse and repeat. You think Paypal is going to go to the police and huff that maybe all the seller's items were frauds and the seller should refund everybody? Ho and hum.

Get a few strands of hair, look up a bio of Lincoln or Marilyn, name-check somebody who may have known them and who is also long dead, and you've got a story and a BUY IT NOW for $400. Who is going to pay $400 to have that $400 purchase authenticated? What kind of sucker would simply trust EBAY and PAYPAL and pay the money to show off a worthless item? There's one born every minute.

THE RUSH TO JUDGMENT - THE FIRING OF WEATHERMAN JEREMY KAPPELL

"You don't need a weatherman..."

To know that PC KNEEJERKS blow.

Too bad the ignorant, intolerant idiots who called for the firing of Jeremy Kappell, AND those who fired him, don't know who Mark Lane is. They probably don't listen to Bob Dylan much, when there's Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. Or soft music with NO lyrics at all.

No. The world today is full of sassy misinformed bully blowhards like mis-named"LOVELY WARREN, the Mayor of Rochester, New York (any statues of white guys you'd like taken down, LOVELY lady?), and hypocrite weasels like dopey-faced station manager goon Richard Reingold, a man who looks like he got a face transplant from Rick Moranis.

I'm ranting about the firing of JEREMY KAPPELL for a very obvious and innocent "jumble" that the Rev. Spooner would instantly forgive.

I used to be a disc jockey. I know that in the course of hours every night, the odds are you'll mispronounce a name, or do an audio typo.

But do you REALLY have to be a former disc jockey to understand that? Hasn't everybody had an embarrassing moment where a word comes out wrong and everyone points at you?

Unfortunately for Jeremy Kappell, his tongue-twist happened while mentioning Martin Luther King Jr.

As he hurried along, whether ad-libbing or reading from a TelePrompter, the LOOOO in LUTHER stayed in his brain a nano-second too long, and clashed with KING JOOOOONIOR.

The result: "Martin Luther Koon/ KING Jr."

He caught and corrected it as he spoke, but made the mistake of NOT acknowledging it.

We're talking about live television. He may not have thought it was that audible. He may not have remembered, in that split second, that "Coon" is, for most people, an ancient slang term. Put it this way, if it was popular, rappers would've found a way of fucking with it, as they do "Nigga." Right? They don't.

The TV show's anchors didn't say, "By the way folks, if you thought he said a bad word, he didn't mean it." Nobody told Kappell during a commercial break, "this could be a problem, apologize." It wasn't a big deal until a few people decided to make it a big deal.

It was a big deal for professional PC pests and paranoids and politicians like LOVELY WARREN

Why not fight for ALL people defamed and misunderstood, lady?

Author Kurt Eichenwald has a different take on the brain-mouth mangle that happened to Kappell. It's still a spoonerism:

Before he knew what hit him, Kappell, a veteran newsman for several TV stations, was out of a job and branded a racist.

You'd think his boss, who looks like an impotent senile goggle-eyed frog, but maybe isn't, would at LEAST say, "Whether he meant it or not, we have to fire him, and set an example to make sure all reporters speak more slowly, measure their words, and are CAREFUL to NEVER mispronounce anything."

Nah. He was too busy scrambling atop his high horse and being a sanctimonious old suck-up to LOVELY WARREN.

TWITTER is now the instant arbiter of tastes and trends, and as you might expect, a lot of ignorant opinionated people, comfortable in calling everyone RACIST and feeling sorry for themselves, and underlining their agenda even when it's not called for, were quick to shout about KAPPELL and about horrible racist White America (which elected a black man President). Kappell being fired (by an old white man) was ignored.

It does seem that maybe 70% of the Tweeters, including a lot of black people, do believe Kappell simply fumbled his words, and pointed out that a man would have to be a card-carrying Nazi KKK Racist LUNATIC to say "Martin Luther Coon King Jr," on a broadcast and expect to get away with it.

Check out some of these. See if there are any that strike YOU as IGNORANT, INTOLERANT, or smug in deciding whether a stranger they don't know BE A RACIST consciously or, hey hey hey, subconsciously.

WABC's anchorman (years ago) Roger Grimsby was once asked if he made an embarrassing gaffe on the air.

He straight-faced, "Yes, one time I mispronounced "COUNT."

Do you suppose if he did that today, he'd be fired as a misogynist? Called a pervert? YOU BET.

In a jury trial, you look for motive and intent and a past record of bad behavior. Kappell was instantly shot down without regard to any of it.

There have been unfortunate cases where there was a word-slip, and NOTHING happened. The person was forgiven. There was also the notorious ESPN incident where a young reporter, referring to an Asian basketball player's flaws, ad-libbed there "was a chink in his armor." The kid had no idea that he'd been offensive and was mortified. What do you say, that everybody should make a point of checking out all offensive or potentially offensive terms, and hang out with dumbass racist morons who use them? It's possible that nobody's heard the word "chink" since Archie Bunker used it...and a lot of people under 30 don't know who Archie Bunker is.

Dazed and confused, his wife by his side, Kappell issued a video apology. Will it get him his job back? Of course NOT.

Anyone concerned that this guy might not have a lot of savings and might have to go crawl around for some obscure job somewhere, doing something he HATES because some haters and condescending clods pushed him under the bus?

Will there be a TV station in Canada, on cable, on the Internet, or in Europe that will allow him to do the job he loves?

How many YEARS will it take, if at all, for him to get this stain off his record?

Nobody points a finger at jerks like Michael A. Tewell, who take the time to be SO much HOLIER THAN THOU:

He wasn't the first to cast a stone, but you can bet, he would be the first to declare "I don't see color," and the first to cross the street if three black guys came strolling toward him. Or do I misjudge the poor fellow? Gosh, there DOES seem to be misjudging going on regarding utter strangers. Sorry, Mikey, I'm sure YOU are a saint.

Meanwhile, Google Kappell's name and you get reports such as this one from CBS:

I'm sure LOVELY WARREN is doing a LOVELY job in Rochester, and the town has no crime, no sanitation problems, on-time transportation, no unemployment, a boom in real estate prices, and is the very model of small town perfection. (It's Albany, Buffalo and every other town up there that sucks.) What she should look into next, though, is making sure the next weatherman is OF COLOR, and preferably, a weather PERSON (ie, female). Also, let's look into why the station manager is an old white guy. That doesn't seem too fair, does it? Did he instantly fire Kappell to save his own vile, WHITE hide? Must be so, y'all.

Mostly, what's happened here is that we've seen another example of ignorance and intolerance.

A sign of HOPE is the number of "LIKES" that intelligent and compassionate Twitter users have gotten for pointing out that Kappell merely made a mistake, and that he should not have been fired.

But HOPE doesn't feed this man's family or get him a new job. Does it? We have to wait and see.

GOAT???? Hey, GAAS! (GET AN ATTENTION SPAN)

Aren't you tired of deciphering INITIALS?

It seems that in these ADD (attention deficit days) we're encountering speed-bumps of UH (UGLY HIP) wordplay.

It started innocently, ALMOST cutely, with such nonsense as BRANGELINA (the term for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie being together).

They split up, but the idea of squishing words together and playing with initials is now CEMENTED into the TROPE of our ZEITGEIST. (Yes, along with moronic words that should stay buried in the dictionary).

It took me a moment to decipher why a champion athlete is a GOAT.

Last I checked, a GOAT was the athlete who screwed up during a game. Like Bill Buckner letting a ball pass between his legs in a world series.

GOAT?

Amanda Nunes knocked out Cris Cyborg and became...A GOAT?

Oh. You mean, "GREATEST OF ALL TIME."

Somehow, I can't imagine Muhammad Ali walking around saying to people, "I'M THE GOAT!"

Can you?

It's bad enough that we have the normal usage of initials. Amanda Nunes, is an MMA champion in the UFC.

Do we need MORE of this to figure out?

One of the ugliest examples of this MBA (Millennial-Based Assholery) is...POTUS.

It takes...oooh...FOUR SYLLABLES to say "PRESIDENT TRUMP."

How much faster it is, to drop a syllable and say "THE POTUS."

That's right Y'ALL, contractions and initials make things so much easier for posting on TWITTER while you're getting your fast food at KFC or Micky D's.

NEWSER - It isn't PLAGIARISM if it's just RE-WRITING...RIGHT?

You go to a blog and see 50 entire discographies with Rapidgator download links. The blogger writes: "I don't own copyright. I am SHARING. I love music. If you like the music you download as a PREVIEW, then buy it!"

Something like that.

That's the 21st Century Internet Mentality. SHARING isn't STEALING.

And over at NEWSER?

It seems to me they, and many others, SHARE the information they glean from legitimate news sites and PROFIT from the re-writes. Usually without credit to the original source.

NEWSER doesn't hire reporters. NEWSER hires USERS and ABUSERS and SCREWSERS.

Then they aggressively push these articles via every search engine and news aggregate site they can bribe. EARTHLINK, for example, has a helpful page where they give you links to all the interesting stories of the day. Almost all of them are click-throughs to NEWSER.

One story was about how AMAZON cheats people. What, more than NEWSER does?

I clicked the link, gave an UGH when I saw it was a piece of NEWSER re-write shit, and then a double UGH when NEWSER instantly rang down a fading blur to let me know THEY expect to get ad money so I better not use my adblock if I want to read their re-chewed articles.

Since Jeff Bezos, the world's richest Fascist dictator, owns Amazon, which controls about half the Internet mail-order business, I was interested in reading how he and Amazon make slaves out of people. They have help from weasels who run "get rich quick" seminars. The idea is that you buy some garbage from China, put it on AMAZON, and by GOD how the money rolls in. With Amazon taking a huge cut of your profits. And, by the way, why not pay somebody to write false five star reviews to encourage sales?

I glanced at the NEWSER screwser abuser user article before it went blurry on me, caught a name mentioned in the piece, and Googled it. Sure enough, I came up with the ORIGINAL article, printed in THE ATLANTIC several days earlier...

So, at The Atlantic, Alana Semuels writes a piece, and then at NEWSER the user/abuser, NEAL the STEAL re-writes it? Maybe ads some seasonings from other articles on the Internet? Then gets a few pennies for his hard work? How LOVELY.

An irony is that The Atlantic doesn't demand you take off your adblock to read the story, but nasty, petty, obnoxious, weasel-loaded NEWSER sure does.

They're like the blog-brats who troll each other ("You re-upped my Beach Boys discography. I know, I put tags on the songs! Stop freeloading off MY HARD WORK and taking some of MY hard-earned Rapidgator royalties") and scream about record label interference ("I got a DMCA takedown on my Beach Boys uploads! They make enough money. Why are they bothering ME? I'm re-upping! I'll make it more difficult for 'em this time! Email me for the links!!")

People wonder how Mussolini and Hitler came to power? We have Jeff Bezos and Donald Trump.

People wonder how the Jews, the Gays, the Poles, and other undesirables were led into the gas chambers so easily? Try stopping your music, films, TV shows or books from being downloaded on Google's blogs, in forums, or via the gushing TORRENTS. Try preventing NEWSER's Sgt. Schultz-types from saying, "We know nnnnuthing, nnnnuthing about plagiarism...we are just re-writing facts we happened to find...yah..."

There's no shortage of parasites chewing away, and no shortage of bullies who use the laxity of Internet law to do anything they want, aided and abetted by the sudden disappearance of any rules on MONOPOLIES.

Maybe NEWSER will have an article about this...but only after somebody else writes it first.

USA TODAY starts the year off with PC -- PUSSY CRAPOLA

What kind of a name is MAEVE?

Is it for somebody who has a pussy, or for some guy who simply IS a pussy?

In this age of LISTS as non-fiction pieces, it's no surprise to find one of those clickbait pieces of crap being hawked on every aggregate and search engine.

What IS surprising is when USA TODAY needs to do it, and presumably pays somebody to be an idiot.

Well, maybe it is NOT so surprising. Years ago Mort Sahl nailed it by referring to USA Today as "Egg McPaper." It's the national newspaper that almost nobody reads unless they're in a hotel and they get it free.

Competing now with so many Internet newspapers (and plagiaristic re-write sites like NEWSER) they may be lost. MAEVE, who wrote this idiotic list of 20 awful awful awful NON-PC songs that nobody should ever listen to again, is certainly lost.

I'm not going to offer rebuttal on all of MAEVE's whimpering, clucking, hand-wringing choices. Well, I can't resist a few comments, which you can read after the break.

All right. Let's just say that it's VERY tiresome to read drivel about The Beatles and the "she was just SEVENTEEN" line.

Consider that in the United States, you can marry someone at 17. At 16. At 15. At 14. Even at 13 in some states.

How old was one of Jerry Lee Lewis's brides? How old was Edgar A. Poe's wife Virginia?

In England and in America, there are a number of unwed mothers who are 14 or 15. Is it so terrible for Lennon-McCartney, who were not much older than 17, to sing about a hot girl? Are they saying they've banged her? No, they are just saying a 17 year-old is hot. Nabakov would tell you that, too.

So what is MAEVE frowning about?

As to Lennon's somewhat lethal line, "I'd rather see you dead little girl," why not also whine that he called her "little girl?" Surely that denotes someone who might be 17 or younger. Hey, it might even mean a dwarf. Excuse me, "little person."

While John later mentioned that he felt the line was a bit strong, let's remember that people say "I'll kill you" all he time without meaning it literally, and that some of the lyrics were just a tribute/snatch (excuse me, can I say SNATCH) from Elvis Presley's "Let's Play House." Elvis sings to a "little girl" in that one. Horrible, huh?

Lastly, before you can look and laugh at the rest of this sorry list of second-guessing, it's important to mention that these songs were, in some cases, written OVER FIFTY YEARS AGO. What would MAEVE have us do? NEVER listen to them again? Dub in some new words? Simply have a buzzer go off on the offensive lines? Offensive, by the way, to WHOM? One stuck-up trouble-maker doing a clickbait article for Egg McPaper's website?

How ridiculous does it get, in complaining about a song that mentions "make an ugly woman your wife." Oooh, what a TERRIBLE thing to say.

Why not check on the lyrics to "Louie Louie?" Why not question Procol Harum's "I'll blacken your Christmas and piss on your door?" How about complaining that David Seville's "Witch Doctor" is disrespecting African native healers and that no high priest or shaman ever said "walla walla bing bang?" How about the smutty innuendo in Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm COMING." How about rude Roy Orbison daring to refer to a lady as "Pretty Woman," and make a goofy noise at her? Surely Patti Page was into bestiality with "How Much is that Doggie In the Window." And ooh, did you hear the whip crack in Frankie Laine's "Mule Train?"

I could go on, but MAEVE is going on and on. And yeah, sure, check, MAEVE duly mentions (zzzz) "Brown Sugar." But MAEVE missed "They're Coming To Take Me Away," and surely MAEVE identifies with a CRAZY PERSON.
