The words of Bob Dylan. His songs are being pirated right now by Kim Dotcom. Yes, the same guy who for SIX YEARS has fought extradition to America, and has been coddled by New Zealand. New Zealand is where justice is a game: SIX YEARS and all kinds of delays and pleas from their beloved German moocher and his lawyer. Kim Dotcom (that's the Nazi's adopted idiot legal name) moved to New Zealand, set up a huge mansion there, and is STILL pirating.
Can you imagine hearing that Harvey Weinstein, awaiting trial, was enjoying whores every night? That women were seen leaving his apartment in tears because he forced themselves on them and said, "It's just he said she said?"
Kim Dotcom, who made nearly $200 million off illegal downloads via his Megaupload company, is making MORE millions running the cleverly named Mega company out of...yes, NEW ZEALAND, home of no justice.
For six years, the fat man has happily shrugged a bunch of excuses for not being extradited. Like, "I am not an American citizen, so why bother me?" And, "I'm like eBay. I'm JUST a venue. How do I know if people used my old website to upload illegal files...and are doing it at my NEW website?"
Part of the problem here involves initials: RIAA and IFPI and BPI and GEMA and all the other ridiculous organizations that are supposed to protect copyrighted music. Add the film studios and book publishers who are impotent to do anything about the piracy of films or books or tv shows...and don't care THAT much because the fat cats always get paid off the top.
Lobbyists for Fascist companies like Google, Amazon and eBay have made sure that the weak DMCA laws remain weak, and that whenever some limp politician like pipsqueak publicity-whore Senator Charles Schumer actually drafts up a proposal (PIPA), it never goes anywhere, and the politician quietly walks away.
An irony here is that as repulsive as Kim Dotcom is...he's a lot more ethical than than some of his competition. Like eBay, Kim Dotcom's old Megaupload and new Mega.NZ actually accept DMCA's. If an artist or a company sends one in, reporting a blogger (Google's Blogspot being loaded with pirate blogs) that file is removed. This is NOT the case with file servers located in Russia, Serbia, Croatia or other Communist countries.
What's long overdue is having ICE and similar American agencies shut down and/or block websites that are obviously doing nothing but pirating copyrighted material. The most effective way of blocking the average moron from downloading stolen material, and thinking what they're doing is their RIGHT, is to show they are WRONG. Shut down the bold torrents, forums and blogs that think they are entitled to the "freedom of speech" in saying, "here's free downloads."
Sites that are in countries that supposedly have courts of law that function properly, like New Zealand, or Holland, Germany, France, the UK and the USA, should make sure that NO uploader can upload without signed licensing agreements. YouTube has ways of automatically checking the "footprints" of a file, and matching them up to copyrighted material. The material is blocked. The uploader gets a message, "This file can NOT be posted. It contains copyrighted material."
ALL websites should be using that technology. All uploaders should have to register with a credit card and valid identification, and if they are caught, if they receive more than a few complaints, they should be banned and the government should automatically debit or "tax" them and take out an appropriate amount of money as a fine. Currently eBay for example will let a seller remain on site after many complaints proving the seller to be engaged in fraud. If eBay finally suspends the seller, they do almost NOTHING to keep the person from getting a fresh account, and their twisted sister Paypal is a partner in the crime.
Some have called Kim Dotcom a hero, just as they love Julian Assange. Idiots view these vainglorious assholes as Robin Hood types. They TAKE from the rich. They TAKE from whoever they feel like TAKING from. As long as they give other people the "goodies" or cause havoc to organizations that are disliked (like record companies, or the United States government) they are cheered and revered. Assange has been hiding in a banana republic's embassy, and Kim Dotcom has been waddling around for six years laughing at the United States government. You can bet if Assange stole files from Putin instead of America, and if Dotcom did the same, both these men would be green with poison and six feet under.
When pirates roamed the seas, they were ousted by bigger, more powerful ships. Countries squashed these punks, these rogues, these cowardly idiots. It's time for the UK and the USA and Sweden, Germany, France, Holland and all the rest, to put an end to Internet piracy and by doing so, not just stop jerks from profiting from stolen music and movie files...but help stop identity theft, cyberbullying, revenge porn and the other "wonders" of the Internet. Shrugging about "the lawless Internet" has only decayed and made more decadent our world. The Internet, thought to be a great tool for instant learning, instant sharing of ideas, instant news and information, has instead become a big fat farce, personified by the Kim Dotcoms of the world.
