"Whatever Happened to Class?" Yeah, and WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BEAUTY?

A musical question from the Broadway show "Chicago" is...

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CLASS?

Another question one can ask is...

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BEAUTY?

How many generations ago was it, that beauty was something natural and FOUND EVERY DAY on TV and in movies?

I wrote "Sweethearts of 60's TV" and maybe 60's TV was the last time you could see women who reflected the ideals of every-day beauty and good taste.

That was the era of Elizabeth Montgomery, Marlo Thomas, Barbara Feldon and Dawn Wells.

Add a little more overt sex appeal and there was Tina Louise, Barbara Eden, Diana Rigg and Julie Newmar.

How long has it been since an attractive woman has been on a hit TV show? Since Jennifer Anniston?

Who was the last really striking and sexy woman in films? Gina Gershon? Angelina Jolie? Halle Berry?

If you were going to update "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," who could possibly play a believable, nice-looking, NATURAL woman now?

Do you remember the era of Gloria Steinem? Do you remember when John Lennon admonished the world about turning women into freaks? "We make her paint her face..."

Today, freakishness is the rule not the exception. That is, when female stars aren't having wardrobe malfunctions, exposing their callipygian butts, or showing off their latest tattoos. They wear garish make-up and streetwalker clothing that would have been rejected by Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner or Eva Gabor.

I keep quoting Mort Sahl:

"DARWIN WAS WRONG."

Here's an assortment of today's female celebrities trying to look glamorous and attractive, and for the most part, FAILING MISERABLY.

Most of them could pass as drag queens instead.

The percentage of grotesques in this set of 10 is way too high.
